Tuesday Night Science & Nature Forum

7:00 to 9:00 p.m. in the BHCC Library

Are you someone who enjoys the awe and wonder of nature?

Are you curious about the science behind the evolution of our planet and the incredible diversity of life that inhabits it?

If so, you may enjoy joining other like-minded people from our community for an evening of discovery, learning and conversation about science and nature. I will be facilitating a two-hour forum on the fourth Tuesday of each month. Each month we will explore a topic that can help us better understand the natural world. The presentation will be followed by an informal discussion where participants can ask questions, share their thoughts, and perhaps explore other science- and nature-related issues or current events that interest them.

No scientific background is required—just curiosity! The sessions will be held in the library area of the BHCC. To keep the forum informal, interactive and manageable, attendance will initially be limited to 20 participants.

Our Inaugural Topic: The Little Things That Rule the World

Our first evening will focus on insects—creatures that are easy to overlook but absolutely essential to life on Earth.

E.O. Wilson,(no direct relation of mine) one of the world’s most notable biologists, a Harvard professor, author of more than 20 books and a two-time Pulitzer Prize winner, famously described insects as “the little things that run the world.”

During our first forum, we will watch two engaging videos that explore how remarkable insects are, how much we depend upon them, and what the world might look like without them.
